Assignment #1


“Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but nobody else does.” as quoted by Steuart Henderson Britt. basically to me it means that there is no point coming out with something, no matter how good the product is, if you don't expose it to others. in other words, advertise it.

based on the term above, winking at a girl is similar to attracting someone but how are you going to attract people if the people can't see what you are doing? true that some of you might cling to the term "if you want something, you will put the effort to find it. you don't need to be exposed to it."



take toothpaste for example. everyone knows that it is a daily need. everyone knows what is the purpose of a toothpaste and people use it every single day or else you'll be just as disgusting as a pile of poop. but hey, ever wonder why there are so many toothpaste brands out there just waiting to be used in the market nowadays? and how do they attract people on buying their products? well you've guessed it. advertising.

by advertising your product or business, people will be aware on what are the specialities of your product and your brand will be known to others because lets face it, we know we are open to so many options and choices - even if it is just a toothpaste. it won't be 'just another toothpaste' if you know how to place your product well. how people position your product in their hearts is another story.

long story short, advertising is crucial. it really depends on how the people (or better said as consumers) receive a certain information that was given by the advertisers. because whatever choices the consumer has made, it will always based on how one receives the message and how effective the message is to the consumers. don't wink in the dark because you know the view is always better with the lights on.
